The Big Move

The Big Move

The last couple of months in our life have been hectic to say the least. I am writing this from my new studio/office space that is in the backyard of our new home. I am feeling very grateful to have this wonderful space to work from, and that we are finally here and somewhat settled in.

We bought our new house in Te Atatu Peninsula in West Auckland back at the end of February 2020. Our settlement was delayed by the COVID-19 lockdown and by the time restrictions were lifted we were itching to escape our tiny flat and move. Thankfully COVID Level 3 allowed us to move, so in a few short weeks we finished packing up our house, booked the movers, signed all the documents and made the big move in mid-May.

My new space has an analogue area just for painting, and a digital area for all the computer/admin work. Being able to seperate these two is a real joy. My painting area gets beautiful northern light through large sunny windows.

It was so great to get my studio boxes and furniture unpacked. Some of it has been packed away or in storage since before Arlo was born when I moved out of my Ponsonby Studio.

I have already painted a big wall white, so there are now two large white walls on which I can work. Darren has installed some shelves for me, and I am trying to set the space up so it is safe as possible. I want Arlo to be able to safely spend time with me in the studio, so all paints etc are stored out of reach of curious little hands.

The studio and office are going to be a work in progress I feel. Much like the house there are so many things we want to do or change, and since we love a bit of DIY most projects are attempted in the weekend.

Here are some shots of the set up so far.
